Adobe Photoshop has become a software program of considerable importance for millions of people all over the world. Many use Photoshop solely for editing photos and images but, as I’m sure you’re well aware, the program is capable of performing an incredible array of different tasks and functions to a highly professional level and that can make its user interface feel a little unfriendly to the raw beginner at first. So if you’ve gotten over the price of the software (yikes!) and bought it or you’re on a free trial version then it’s our goal to make learning how to use photoshop as simple and as easy as it can be for you.
I can still remember when I first double clicked the photo shop icon on my desktop and watched it open on the computer screen before me - I literally couldn’t do a thing with it. The sheer number of plugins, backgrounds, filters and tools were simply too bewildering and it immediately paralysed me. If that sounds like you then rest assured that I’m going to my level best to see that you learn everything about photoshop as quickly and as easily as possible. I won’t ever try to impress you with technical language but rather my sole aim will be to make everything as simple to follow as possible - “here’s what you want done, here’s how to do” kind of thing!
It would be hard for any collection of photoshop tutorials to cover everything the program is capable of but these lessons will certainly cover the most popular functionalities of the software and show you how to get the most out of it without tearing your hair out. While no set of photoshop tuts could possible contain lessons for everything the program can do what I’ve strived for is to give you a concise guide to the parts of photoshop you’ll most need and use everyday. So long as your requirements are not ultra specific or specialized you’ll probably find everything you need right here to be in heaven every time you launch photoshop to get some work done, and what a nice feeling that will be.

 Photoshop Tutorial For Beginners

Photoshop tutorials for beginners can be read from page to page or skipped directly to in accordance with what you need and your current level of proficiency – neither approach is right nor wrong. The site is quite well structured and organized so you should be able to find what you need quickly and without too much fuss. If you’re entirely new to Adobe photoshop then the best place to start is by learning the big, universal, basic functions of the software such as core tasks like how to create and save PSD files, importing photos into photoshop, cropping photos, editing photos and how to export them back out again etc…
If you already have some experience with digital photos or image editing in general but you’re still unsure about picture resolution or file formats then take some time to fill in the gaps right now by reading through those relevant lessons on the site before going any further. This could save you a lot of frustration in the near future and it’s really not that complicated to understand. When we get a little deeper into the program we’ll be looking at how you can easily scan and download images from cameras into photoshop’s workspace along with printing images and uploading your finished pics or graphics to the web.

 Photo Manipulation – Photo Retouching

Ok, so once your raw material (photographs or images) are inside the software the next thing becomes how to use photoshop and harness its full power to enhance or change your work? Adobe Photoshop is so powerful that most anything you can conceive with your imagination can be done and realised using the software. So the gauntlet has well and truly be thrown at your feet! I’ll be covering lots of imaging techniques for improving your work as well as how to best correct and mask your mistakes whenever you need to which should be of particular interest to digital photographers. You’ll also learn how to create tonality in pictures and use colours along with isolation techniques. The tutorials in this section will also cover the most FAQ and problems such as eliminating red-eye, cropping out people, improving physical appearances, making portraits look their best… even how to get rid of wrinkles. Some members of the family will surely thank you for that!

Photo Effects & Becoming a Power User

Step 4 of my psdtuts will make you into a “power user”, that is, someone who can do more with Photoshop that what most others can do. “Photoshop actions” presents more advanced features before you and in many ways is more specialised too. Some of tasks you can perform would include making professional on-screen presentations, creating pages of photo thumbnails which open to full images when clicked, printing many copies of a cropped photo onto one sheet of paper and so forth. All these are within the capacity of Photoshop CS4 or CS5 extended. I’ll also be looking at the emerging technology for 3D in Photoshop along with vector files and video applications too.
I have no doubt that as you explore you way through the jungle that is Photoshop with these lessons and tips you’ll have many “wow” and “ah ha” moments because it truly is a beautifully complex piece of software for any designer. Remember this however, just because something is complex does not mean that it’s complicated. Everything is simple when you know what to do. Hopefully the collection of photoshop tutorial contained within this site will prove that to you.

Photo shop Tutorials & Photo Effects To Enhance Your Pics

While it’s true that some photographs are already perfect can be printed straight away most photos will benefit from being imported into Adobe photoshop  and worked on. This section is all about giving you the most popular photoshop tutorial and photo effects. Depending on the quality of your pics and how experienced a photographer you are, you fotos may need a little or a lot of work! Let’s dive into the magic and learn the best techniques to beautify your digital photos right now.
The first thing to realize is that the tonal range of your shots (that is the range of brightness from black to white) is extremely important when it comes to avoiding being labeled an amateur photographer. By taking photography tutorials and learning how to adjust and maximise color in your pics you’ll already be well on the way to drastically improving the quality of your photos. Light is the single most important factor which separates amateur looking pics from professional ones. Much of this work can be accomplished using the Histogram palette or the auto commands and even in isolation with Photo shop brushes. In fact, using the photo effect technology in Photoshop you can create many striking effects in photographic design such as photo mosaics, vintage photos, explosion effects and motion blurs for example.
Besides shadows and highlights we also need to focus on making colors look as natural as possible. Recently there has been a trend among digital photographers to switch to working with the Raw file format simply because it allows for a greater scope of control in rendering the final image. I’ll have specific content dedicated to this in the near future.
Some photo effects will impact upon the entire picture while others are meant to isolate and work solely upon specific parts of it. When you ask the software to carry out such work it’s important that you understand how to isolate only the exact parts of the image you wish to edit within the photoshop interface and workspace.
Some of the most common problems you may encounter and wish to eliminate include how to get rid of red-eye, how to reduce wrinkles, how to make teeth look whiter and also how to reduce digital noise.

Photoshop Photo Editing Effects

The best technique to beautify your images and make them leap out and appear as striking and as real as possible is to make sure your shadows are dark, your highlight areas are light and that all the colors appear real and natural. It’s like the difference between high definition TV and a cheap cable broadcast. Getting your photos to appear is this way is called “getting them to pop”, like they were popping out at you off the print. This goes not only for printed photographs but also for web graphics and website icons.
You can use your editing skills within Photoshop to achieve this quite easily and we’re going to refer to all things within this category as Tonality. It’s basically the brightness of your images and the level of difference between shadows and light areas. Some important commands exist within Photoshop for you to make all the necessary adjustments to the tonality of your images or whatever source files you’re using and some tools will even allow you to get really up close and personal with shadows and highlights in minute details.

Making Your Images Pop

So the first thing to do is a tonal adjustment on your digital photograph, we want to make the shadows darker and the highlight areas brighter which is considered a core manipulation. This does something rather fancy called “increasing your photo’s perceived tonal range” and it’s probably the best way to instantly improve your shots – by improving the distance between black and white and how the human eye registers them. As a result you’ll intensify your image and make it more interesting with an increased sense of depth. Some images can have a decent composition, a interesting subject and reasonable light but they lack that instant ‘wow’ effect for this very reason.
This process is referred to as tonality, brightness or even luminosity. Generally among designers however, brightness is referred to when talking about specific pixels while tonality refers to the entire picture.

Photoshop’s Histogram Panel

FITER>BLUR>GAUSSIN BLUR
Photoshop offers a way to look deeply into the tonality of your pictures with it’s Histogram panel. Basically it analyses the spread of pixels in your image and displays them according to how bright they are - their luminosity value. You’ll see the highlights stacked on the right, the lighter pixels on the left and in the middle we have the mid-tones. If you have a really beautiful photo in terms of tonality and lighting effects you’ll see the graph displayed in a kind of sweeping bell shape. This is by no means a perfect judge however as it depends on many factors such as whether the artist was taking a shot of a bright landscape such as a snowy alpine view or perhaps night photography… sometimes perfectly exposed images won’t look ‘technically’ correct in the Histogram display. Assuming however that we are dealing with common and everyday subjects in our shots the Histogram does do a fairly decent job of analysing image tonality.

How To Use Photo shop's Auto Corrections

FILTER>STYLIZE>SOLARIZ / CTRL+B>128
For beginners looking for an easy way to enhance their images or do some quick photo retouching the fastest way is to use the set of auto corrections available within Photoshop. In many cases you won’t need to even go into the Histogram, a simple click upon one of the auto commands along the image menu will adjust the tonality of your image and make it ‘pop’. Instantly you’ll have a great picture from an easy command, perfect for owners hobby photographers.
If however you wish to apply special effects to your photo or if the image is poor to begin with and needs repair the you may find that that the auto commands aren’t really intuitive enough to get what you want. You’ll have to go under the hood so to speak. As a general rule you should always try the an auto command first and if it doesn’t do the job it’s simply a matter of clicking undo.

Photo shop's 3 Auto Corrections

FILTER>DISTROT>POLAR COORDIN
Auto Contrast:This is a great photo effect which instantly makes dark areas darker and bright areas brighter. It does this while trying to avoid influencing the colors in your image and therefore leave the overall color intact. This adjustment takes place in all 3 color channels and it is safe to try applying this photo effect to shots where you are already happy with the colors but simply wish to increase the contrast.
Auto Tone: The auto tone command makes changes to each color channel separately and as a result produces a stronger effect in image tonality. It’s good for images where you are happy with the pic already but want to improve the tonality without minding to much if the colors do not remain exactly the same afterwards.
Auto Color: This effect takes and average of pixel colors and is perhaps a little more sophisticated it’s processing. This is probably the first one I would try. It can have wonderful results or horrible ones depending on the photo, just try it and see. It tends not to work so well on images with brightly colored objects or extreme color casts.

Modify Your Photographs

FILTER>STYLIZE>WIND
Part of the reason for the high price tag on Photoshop is that when you need to perform more advanced effects upon photos it really delivers and gives you the power to do it. There are occasions when the auto commands simply won’t cut it and you’ll need more advanced photo editing skills. Fortunately the software has numerous tools which allow you to manipulate images and in particular, their tonality. These are among the nicest Photoshop photo effects. Probably the two most common are Levels and Curves which can both be found in the Adjustments panel.
If you’re used to (and still in love) with older versions of Photoshop then you may insist on sticking to the two slider Brightness/Contrast panel in photo editing. This is often perfectly adequate for many tonality adjustments limited to just those two channels but inside both alpha channels and layer masks it’s better to work with a grayscale. Another rather outdated command is the Equalize adjustment. It mostly over compensates and produces too extreme results in contrast to be useful.
Probably the most important tip to keep in mind is that you should only apply photo effects and repair parts of your image that really need it. If you have a picture where everything is fine except for the fact that one part is appearing too bright then focus upon that part of the composition only. You’ll find some good info on this with Denny Tang Photoshop tutorials and along with free photoshop text effects.

Idea’s For Having Fun And Practicing With Adobe Photoshop Effect Tutorials…

Many of the techniques discussed so far may be all you really need for tonality it you’re a hobby photographer or own some picture blogs on the web to which you publish compilations of your work. If you’re more interested in the creative power of Photoshop and producing digital artwork through PSD files then you’ll need to go deeper into the powerful effects Photoshop has on offer and be willing to put in the time to learn them. There are many things you can do with photo filters, painting effects, photo borders, portrait design, reflections, textures and adjustment layers to modify your photographs to whatever you imagination can conceive of. Luckily there are many free Photoshop tips and tuts available on the web to show you how!
Retouching pictures of people is probably the most popular use for photo effects. You can get a good general idea of what to do but it’s also possible to become more of a specialist in how to manipulate and enhance every facet of the human face in portrait photography. Focus will be put into the lips, hair, eyes and skin texture of your model in order to create a flawless image if that’s what you desire. One of the best Photoshop tips is to practice a lot using stock photos from a variety of scenes. You could apply effects to weddings shots, abstract pictures, transform magazine images or even wok with comic book illustrations. What about working with watercolors, pictures of lightning or rainbows, creating posters and so forth? Basically the more you experience the better you’ll become.
Web design is another huge industry based around digital imaging software. In this field you could start by making sure that all your images were published with plenty of ‘pop’ but also grow into working with web graphics and drawing icons. Website textures and backgrounds would also be an excellent place to get your feet wet especially if you could mix creating gradients with retro effects like sepia. Blending effects, patterns and shapes you can create attractive personal wallpapers for your computer desktop… I’m just throwing ideas at you here in the hope that some of them will push a button in you to ‘get creative’.

Using The Exposure Features

One of hardest things for any inexperienced photographer to manually judge is the correct camera setting for exposure. If you look at the Image – Adjustments menu of Photoshop CS3, CS4 and CS5 you’ll see that’s a function there which will simulate how your image would look if you had chosen a different exposure setting on your camera before the shutter dropped. This will completely change the tonality of your photography right across the board or only within the selection you have designated. You’ll find that this powerful effect change produce dramatic results!
Exposure is actually quite specialized as a dynamic enhancement tool and often won’t be as effective as working with Curves and Shadow and Highlights. The problem is that many of the settings in the exposure dialog box are meant for working with very high end resolution images (high bit rates) and the Gamma Correction Sliders will simply be too sensitive for more ordinary quality pictures.
